Patch: What attracted you to the medical/healthcare field, and how did you get started?

Fatzinger: I was initially attracted to the field of sports medicine, specifically athletic training. I received my Bachelors degree in athletic training and had initially planned on a career working in the university athletics setting. However, I decided to pursue a degree and career in physical therapy in order to expand my treatment to all populations, not just athletes, while still using a fitness and performance based approach.

Patch: What kind of medicine/services do you or your organization/practice specialize in?

Fatzinger:

  • Sports rehabilitation
  • Physical therapy for pain, injury, physical limitations
  • Concussion care and much more
  • Wellness programs
  • Recovery sessions

Patch: How do you and your organization/practice stay up-to-date with healthcare advancements?

Fatzinger: We utilize an evidence based approach by keeping up to date on all current evidence and treatment approaches. We pride ourselves in continuing education. Our staff hosts weekly in-services where we keep each other updated on current articles, treatment approaches and specialty courses. We also teach our own continuing education course for professionals in the physical therapy, strength and conditioning, and athletic training fields.

Patch: What parts of your job do you find most challenging?

Fatzinger: Working with people who are limited in their ability to perform daily, work or recreational tasks due to pain or injury is always a difficult process. Finding ways to navigate a recovery is often a non linear process. However, through extensive evaluation, progression and re-evaluation we strive to provide the best assessment and treatment possible to help patients achieve their goals.

Patch: What’s your favorite thing about being a doctor/ healthcare professional?

Fatzinger: Patient interaction and working with people of all ages, backgrounds and activity levels. It is understanding their story, and knowing how I fit into their journey to live a better and healthier life.

Patch: How does your training, experience and specialties in your field distinguish you from others in your profession?

Fatzinger: Having specialty certifications in athletic training, strength and conditioning, functional range conditioning, dry needling and many more gives myself and our staff the ability to provide a comprehensive and current approach to physical therapy. Along with our facility which is more like a gym and fitness center, which allows us the space and equipment to get the most out of your physical therapy and training sessions.

Patch: What does a typical day on the job look like for you?

Fatzinger: A typical day for me is coming in to review patient charts and plan sessions. Treating patients from all ages with a wide variety of injuries and presentations. I typically see patients for an hour on initial evaluation and roughly 45 minutes for follow ups. So depending on the length of my work day I may see anywhere from 12-16 patients.

Patch: Do you have any upcoming events in your organization/community?

Fatzinger: We will host our ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate our new location in the coming months, and then are always out and about in the community. This includes running events, youth sports, workshops at gyms and much more. And we are always looking for networking or community events to sponsor or set up an informational station.

Patch: How can Patch readers learn more about your organization/practice?

Fatzinger: Check us out on Rehab2Perform.com and social media @rehab2perform.
