SUV Heading Wrong Way Hits Vehicle Head On Killing 2

Two people died Sunday morning after police say a driver suspected of being impaired went the wrong way on I-95, hitting an SUV head-on.

LAUREL, MD — Two people are dead after police say one driver was heading the wrong way on I-95 and hit another vehicle head-on.

The incident happened around 2:45 a.m. Sunday near southbound I-95 at Maryland 216. According to Maryland State Police, a Toyota Sequoia was heading the wrong way when it hit a Chrysler Pacifica. Police believe the that impairment may have been a factor in the crash.

The driver of the Chrysler Pacifica was pronounced dead at the scene. The front passenger was taken to an area hospital where they were later pronounced dead. Their identities are being withheld at this time pending next of kin notification. Two additional passengers in the Chrysler included a 21-year-old who was taken by ambulance to a trauma center and a 16-year-old who was flown by Maryland State Police Aviation Command to a trauma center. The driver of a the Toyota Sequoia was reported uninjured and remained at the scene, the MSP reported.

Lanes were closed for more than two hours for the crash investigation. Charges may be pending based on the outcome of the investigation and after consultation with the Office of the State’s Attorney in Howard County. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the active and ongoing investigation.
