'Empty Bowls' Filled at South River Fundraiser Wednesday
The Empty Bowls fundraiser will raise money for local food banks and awareness of poverty in Anne Arundel County.

In an effort to raise awareness of hunger and to feed local residents in need, South River High School is hosting it's second Empty Bowls Fundraiser Wednesday.
The Empty Bowls Project is a nationwide, grassroots effort to feed the hungry locally.
Local potters have donated ceramic bowls, and ten local restaurants have agreed to donate 100 bowls of soup each. Participating restaurants include Panera, Chad's BBQ, Chevy's, Chick-fil-A, The Chop House, Green Turtle, Killarney House, Adam's Ribs, Yellowfin and The Steakhouse.
Last year, 300 people attended the event, which raised $4,500 for local food banks.
Attendees are advised not expect a complete meal, as the idea is to simulate meals of those who live in poverty and often do not get a full meal, according to the event flyer.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and $5 for children ages 2-10, when purchased in advance. At the door, tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for students and $7.50 for children ages 2-10. Adult and student ticket purchases come with a ceramic bowl to take home. Beverages will be provided and dessert will be available for purchase at an additional cost.
Tickets can be purchased online here. All proceeds will go to the Anne Arundel County Food Bank.
The fundraiser is at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the South River High School cafeteria. South River High is located at 201 Central Ave. East in Edgewater.
