• Md. corrections officer killed in crash hours after retiring (corrections1.com) — A longtime Prince George’s County corrections officer died in a single-vehicle crash in Crofton on New Year’s Eve, just hours after celebrating his retirement. Police say 57-year-old Master Corporal John Raymond Nicholson’s pickup left Crain Highway near Defense Highway and struck a pole, and the crash remains under investigation. Colleagues remembered him as a friendly, award-winning veteran of the department.
