Route 3 Traffic Concerns: Your Take

Patch readers weighed in on the issues of Route 3 traffic and enforcing laws on impaired driving.

Earlier this week, Patch wrote about recent efforts by state and local police to cut down on impaired driving, including along the Route 3 corridor.

Patch also reported on comments from Anne Arundel County Police Chief Kevin Davis, who said the volume of traffic on Route 3 has made enforcement a challenge.

The articles generated considerable response in the comments and on Facebook. Here is a sampling of comments from the community.

On the Subject of Distracted and Drunk Driving

"I think we are only going to see more and more of the distracted driving/texting — way to much of the self-important attitude of 'I know what I am doing" - Joe Robinson, via Facebook.

On Traffic Volume

"I am only going to assume traffic will become far worse than it is now because of the the BRAC. I live at the butt end of crofton and [Route 3] is my main way, as for many. The drive is unbearable and a 5 minute drive now takes literally 20 mins...20 mins to get up Route 3 is absurd." - Jess Dallas-Nolet, via Facebook.

"
Route 3 traffic is horrible! Not only is it congested with people speeding so they don't have to stop at lights......nobody has road courtesy anymore!" - Shanna McCartin Nicklow, via Facebook.

"They built a 6 lane road with a median. Long turn lanes simulate on/off ramps. You can't be surprised when you build up a road to be just like a freeway and then people treat it like a freeway. "  - Bryant, via Patch.

On The Impact of Development

"Traffic will only get worse with more malls being built on Route 3. As far as the 'michigan u' goes, I love it. If there are cops reading this please, please put yourselves by Waugh Chapel and route 3 as well as by the Bonefish Grill and watch as cars make turns on right when it is clearly marked not to on red....or even make illegal left turns." - Elizabeth Ann, via Facebook.
