• Free Lyft rides available in Alexandria beginning Friday through New Year's Day (alxnow.com) — District Heights residents can get up to $15 off late-night Lyft rides through the SoberRide program from this Friday night through New Year’s Day. The service runs 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., covers Prince George’s County cities including District Heights, and uses promo codes released at 9 p.m. on Dec. 19 and Dec. 31 at SoberRide.com. 
• DC man sentenced to 60 months for role in 2023 bombing spree (dcnewsnow.com) — A D.C. man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for his role in a 2023 bombing spree that began with an ATM explosion at the Bank of America on Silver Hill Road in District Heights. Investigators say he and an accomplice tested explosives to target ATMs and stores across Maryland and D.C., using fake and stolen license plates to mask their movements.
