Behind-the-Scenes Video at Suburban Baltimore Restaurant Goes Viral

An employee at an area Checkers is reportedly no longer with the company after a YouTube video of her burger-making went viral.

In the video, the Checkers worker dropped a hamburger bun on the floor, wiped it on the ground, then picked it up and put mayonnaise on it, proceeding to make the burger.

Lori Malcolm, senior vice president of human resources for Checkers, said she was “appalled and disappointed” by the behavior, responding this week with her own YouTube video issuing the company’s statement on the incident.

While the Checkers sandwich video was posted on YouTube Aug. 4, Malcolm said: “...this event actually occurred a few weeks ago at a Checkers franchise location in a suburb of Baltimore.”

The employees involved are no longer working there, she said, following an investigation by the franchisee.

When the employee from the video and her mother met with Checkers representatives on Aug. 5, the young woman was “very sorry and embarrassed about what happened,” according to Malcolm, telling Checkers personnel that she and her coworkers “were playing around in the kitchen, and the product was never served to a guest.”

Regardless of the circumstances, Malcolm said: “These actions are completely unacceptable,” and the Checkers corporate office is conducting a full investigation and “exploring all of our options.”

Checkers has locations in the Catonsville, Randallstown, Rosedale, Parkville and Dundalk areas in Baltimore County.
