Detours In Sparrows Point Planned

From the Maryland Department of Transportation: The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) on Tuesday will close and detour southbound Wharf Rd. (MD 151B) at the MD 151 (Sparrows Point Blvd.) interchange in southeastern Baltimore County.

Lane closures will be in effect for the duration of a three-year, $29 million project to replace three bridges and make other improvements to the interchange.

Contractor The Six-M Co. of Delta, PA will install a temporary signal and temporary barriers, as well as pave ramps before demolishing and replacing sections of the three bridges that make up the interchange. Work will require single-lane closures and some full closures requiring detours. A section of southbound Wharf Rd. within the interchange will remain closed for the entire project.

On Thursday, Nov. 12, Wharf Rd. will be closed from noon until 3 p.m. Signs, cones and barrels will detour traffic around the interchange via North Point Blvd., Sparrow Point Rd. and Sparrows Point Blvd.

MDOT SHA advises drivers to plan for extra travel time and look ahead for changing travel conditions within the interchange work zone and various long-term and temporary construction-related lane closures and detour routes during three-year construction project.
