10 Best Ice Cream Shops in Maryland

Patch readers told us on Facebook ten of the best places in Maryland to cool off with some ice cream.

EDGEWATER, MD - July temperatures have been brutal in Maryland, with heat indexes over 100 degrees and heat advisories issued by forecasters. The upcoming days will hopefully offer some reprieve after heavy showers move through the area.

Forecasters are warning residents to be vigilant and make sure not to spend too much time outdoors when temperatures are this high.

"Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside," according to a weather service statement. "When possible, reschedule strenuous activities for early in the morning or in the evening."

Other recommendations from forecasters include wearing loose clothing and drinking plenty of water.

  1. The Charmery, 801 W 36th St, Baltimore: "Best ice cream I've EVER had, made fresh onsite." Hours of operation are from noon to 10 p.m. extended to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
  2. Prigel Family Creamery, 4852 Long Green Rd, Glen Arm: This popular spots offers outdoor seating with views of the farm as well as organic ice cream. Hours are from noon to 9 p.m.
  3. Sno-Asis Snowballs, 30 E Padonia Rd, Lutherville Timonium: "They have excellent soft serve vanilla ice cream and the best snowballs!" Sno-Asis is open seven days a week from noon to 9 p.m.
  4. Brooms Bloom Dairy, 1700 S Fountain Green Rd, Bel Air: The Brooms Bloom farm has been around since the early 1700s, and the ice cream is organic with the animals on the farm being naturally fed. Summer hours are from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  5. The Daily Scoop, 3201 Mountain Rd # 109, Pasadena: With 32 flavors daily, The Daily Scoop brings options to the customer. Deemed "Maryland's Best Gourmet Ice Cream Shop" all products are made within the store. Hours are noon to 9:30 p.m. extended to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
  6. Beanie's Ice Cream & Candy Parlor, 301 Wise Ave, Dundalk: Whether you prefer snowballs, sundaes or floats Beanie's has you covered. The toppings lists is quite extensive as well from pineapples to hot fudge to Reese's Pieces. Hours vary.
  7. Bomboy's Candy, 329 Market St, Havre De Grace: Homemade ice cream is one of the specialities at Bomboy's. You can also pick up some of their famous candy when you stop by. The ice cream store is open seven days a week from noon - 9 p.m. for the season.
  8. Scoop Ahh Dee Doo, 3741 Hamilton St, Ellicott City: Located in Old Town Ellicott City, the ice cream at at Scoop Ahh Dee Doo is gourmet and award-winning. The shop is open until 8 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
  9. The Meadows Original Frozen Custard, 6470 Freetown Rd #205, Columbia: Customers can have their sweet tooth satisfied with italian ices, arctic swirls, gelati and more. The original Meadows opened in 1950 and over two dozen individually owned and operated franchises have opened up since. The Meadows is open seven days a week until 9 p.m.
  10. Annapolis Ice Cream Company, 196 Main St, Annapolis: Opened in 2004, the shop has been voted “Best of Annapolis” by its customers for 11 consecutive years. The ice cream is made fresh in the store nearly every day. Annapolis Ice Cream Company is open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., with hours extended to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
