Adventures in South County: South River Pizza
My second adventure led me to this hometown sub shop.

I’ve never been good at poker.
Sure I’ll watch the Texas Hold ‘Em tournaments on TV, but playing is always a lot harder when you don’t have a “pocket cam” showing you the opponent’s cards.
I was so bad, my nickname was “easy money Moynihan” back in high school, when my rag-tag band of ruffians thought we’d mature in our years by playing the game we’d only seen old men enjoy. Usually when I hear “Texas Hold ‘Em,” my immediate answer is, "No." But that wasn’t the case when I walked into Edgewater’s for lunch this week.

As I surveyed the menu, a kid who looked no older than 17 started listing some of the more popular choices on the menu. Sure they looked good, but the Texas Hold ‘Em cheese steak grabbed my attention. Perhaps it was a flashback to the years of ridicule I suffered as an awful poker player, but the ingredients were too good to pass up.
I couldn’t say, “No.”

The toasted sub sandwich is everything you’d expect from a cheese steak, except you get a plethora of additional spices, hot peppers and pepper jack cheese. It was “caliente” spicy and quite satisfying, very much unlike my poker skills.
I was working while sitting in the sub/pizza shop so I can’t really mention how long it took to get my food (you lose track of time in Patchland). I was, however, pleasantly surprised to get some free fries with my sub after confessing to the guy behind the counter it was my first time eating at .
Nothing about the establishment flashed brilliance at me, but the fries and the sub were top-notch. It’s a hometown place with a real hometown feel. The football team poster is the quintessential sign of a “local” restaurant.
All in all, if you’re looking for a casual lunch experience, I’d definitely recommend . I’ll surely be trying out other sub shops, but in the meantime...
Where should I go for my next adventure?
