Best of Breakfast: Wharfside for Breakfast

Wharfside Bar & Grill was named the best breakfast spot in Edgewater-Davidsonville.

If breakfast is the most important meal of the day, Patch readers have identified as the best place to kick-off their morning.

Based on votes, comments and reviews, the Central Avenue West restaurant won Edgewater-Davidsonville's .

After hearing the news of their success Friday morning, Wharfside's owner Rick Sargent and his employees were delighted.

"What pleases me the most is the joy it has brought to my employees," Sargent said. "They work so hard to be friendly and give good service. They're hard workers."

"Chef Kevin," the head of Wharfside's kitchen, couldn't stop smiling after he was told Wharfside had won the "Best of Patch" contest.

After seeing Wharfside's strong support throughout the community, I headed over to the local gem Friday morning to tell them the good news try out its hometown, feel-good atmosphere.

I was immediately greeted with friendly service and a welcoming vibe.

I was directed to the day's specials and after ordering the corned beef hash with eggs, I enjoyed a pleasant conversation with the staff and "Chef Kevin," who personally prepared my meal.

As good as the food was, Sargent was right. The friendliness of Wharfside's staff even outweighs the tremendous flavor of its food.

"When I hire a server, I'm not interested in their experience, I'm interested in their smile and friendliness," Sargent said. "I can teach the basics, but I can't teach you to have the rigth attitude. All the training in the world isn't going to bring that."

I know I'll be heading back to Wharfside, especially on a Thursday night when their hometown restaurant turns into a karaoke bar.

Next week, Patch is looking for the "Best Gym." The voting begins at 9 a.m. Monday.
