Buzzer Beater Sends Seahawks to Regional Finals
South River was trailing at halftime, but came back in dramatic fashion to win the Class 4A East Region semifinals.

A buzzer-beating bucket by Tiffany McKinney propelled South River's girls basketball team past Broadneck High 51-49 in the Class 4A East Region semifinals Wednesday night in Edgewater.
The Seahawks defeated the Bruins by just two points, and it took the final play of the game to score the victory.

The Capital reported that after Broadenck tied up the game, South River point guard Domonique Hagins brought the ball down the court. As she drove to the basket with just seconds left on the clock, Hagins dished the ball to McKinney who drained the final shot as the clock ran out.
It was the second time McKinney showed up big in this year's playoffs. Before sinking the game-winning shot Wednesday, McKinney led the Seahawks in scoring with 20 points against Severna Park on Monday night.

McKinney told The Capital she was unaware that time had expired and that it wasn't until her teammates mobbed her that reality sunk in.
Now that the Seahawks are in the Class 4A East Region finals, the girls will have to face their past demons , the squad that knocked them out in last year's regional finals.
The North Point Eagles at their home court in Waldorf, and the two teams will meet there once again March 3 at 7 p.m.
Heading into the playoffs, Seahawks head coach Mike Zivic said this time of year was all about "making the most" out of every possession. If he can continue to count on standout performances from Hagins and clutch shooting from McKinney, it seems South River might be headed for a MPSSAA final hour appearance.
Tipoff for the Seahawks' next game is on March 3 at 7 p.m. at North Point High School.
