Car Crashes into Pole on Route 214

Maryland Route 214 is open again after being closed Friday morning. In an unrelated incident, firefighters tended to "smoldering mulch" on Mitchells Chance Road.

 

A 46-year-old man suffered serious injuries Friday morning when his car crashed into a pole on Maryland Route 214, according to police and fire officials.

Anne Arundel County police spokesman Justin Mulcahy told Patch in an email that the vehicle was “possibly a Chevy Blazer,” and that it struck the pole at about 4:42 a.m., closing the road temporarily around 5 a.m.

Mulcahy did not have information as to what caused the driver to hit the pole.

The driver’s injuries were not considered life-threatening, but he was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, according to Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman Capt. James Rostek.

Smoldering Mulch

In a separate incident, mulch on the median strip at Mitchells Chance Road was smoldering Friday morning, Anne Arundel Fire Department Chief Michael Cox said. 

The fire department responded around 7 a.m. Friday and contended with  the smoking mulch that was located between and , Cox said. 

Cox had no information as to how the mulch began smoldering.
