Central Elementary Principal Receives Visonary Leadership Award

Jan Haberlein was honored for her efforts to create equal opportunities for people with developmental disabilities.

A regional organization that promotes equal opportunities for people with developmental disabilities recently awarded ’s principal Jan Haberlein with the 2012 Visionary Leadership Award.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) announced Tuesday that the Annapolis-based Arc of the Central Chesapeake Region gave the award to Haberlein along with several accolades to students from and in Edgewater.

“Haberlein was cited for demonstrating strong leadership that advances the values and integrity, accountability and open, honest communication,” according to the AACPS release. “The award is just one of many for Anne Arundel County students teachers and administrators who were recognized for their efforts to increase inclusion and achievement of students with disabilities.”

The Central Elementary principal won the leadership award, but 23 local students were given the Community Participation Award for helping in the process of including individuals with developmental disabilities. Those students recognized are listed below:
