Chas & Fran's Place Opening Monday in Edgewater

Edgewater and Davidsonville residents still mourning the loss of Davidsonville's Country Market on Route 214, get ready to rejoice. 

Monday marks the grand opening of Chas & Fran's Place, a new sit-down breakfast and lunch restaurant operated by Chase and Frannie Thompson, owners of the now closed Davidsonville Country Market. 

"The health department just cleared us and we're opening Monday," Chas Thompson said.

The Country Market closed several weeks ago when the Thompson's were unable to renegotiate their lease for the location on Central Avenue in Davidsonville. The new restaurant is a slight departure from the Country Market in that instead of being solely takeout, there will now be table seating for about 26 guests.

“We’re nervous and we're excited," Frannie said. "We're not used to having to wait on people, but we’ll get used to it," she said, adding she hopes customers will be patient while the owner and staff get adjusted to the changes. 

Chas & Fran's Place will be open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., and yes, Frannie's famous Reubens will on the menu—though pizza will not—as well as many customer's favorites from the Country Market.

Everything served at the restaurant will be homemade, from grilled potatoes to corned beef hash to sausage and gravy to French toast, all from fresh ingredients.

"I didn't go with anything fancy I wanted it to be like a home cooked meal," Thompson said. "A good old American breakfast, like your mama used to cook it."

What else will be on the menu? 

"All of my baked goods, all of my pies candies, homemade desserts, and Chas' personality," Frannie Thompson said.

Chas and Frannie will be cooking for their extended family this weekend for a little practice, but the rest of Davidsonville and Edgewater is invited when they open for business on Monday. 

Loyal customers have already been stopping by as the Thompson's have been setting up shop, and the owners are eager to be back in business. 

Chas & Fran's Place is located at 118 Mayo Rd. in Edgewater and will be open 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., seven days a week, starting Monday.
