UPDATE: Transformer Causes Outage Power at Deale Elementary

The school will not be closing as a result of the outage, according to school system officials.

Update, 11:45 a.m.: Power has been fully restored to the school.

Original story, 10:15 a.m.: Deale Elementary School lost power Tuesday morning, but the children are continuing on with their day, according toe Anne Arundel County School officials.

The school suffered a partial power loss at around 9:45 a.m., and Baltimore Gas & Electric took the rest of the school’s power offline at around 10 a.m. so they could repair a transformer, AACPS spokesperson Maneka Monk said.

BGE anticipates power will be restored to the school in full by 11:15 a.m. The school is not closing as a result of the outage, and parents are asked not to come pick up their children at this time. Phones are also down as part of the outage, so parents that need to contact the school should e-mail Principal Colleen Harris at chharris@aacps.org, Monk said.

“We were already on an early dismissal schedule today, so transportation would not have been able to pick them up early then bring them home and comply with the two-hour early dismissal,” Monk said.

Monk said that Deale elementary school is fairly well lit with windows, so the children are continuing their day as normally as possible.

The school will dismiss at its usually early dismissal time of 12:40 p.m.
