Edgewater McDonald's Honors South River Teacher Tuesday

A portion of Tuesday evening's sales will also be donated in support of the school.

Grab a burger, raise money for a local school and honor one of the state's top teachers Tuesday night at the McDonald's in Edgewater.

The restaurant is hosting a fundraiser for South River High School in honor of Spanish teacher and Maryland Teacher of the Year Finalist Jodie Hogan. From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, McDonald's will be donating a portion of food sales to South River High School in Hogan's honor.

Community members are invited the restaurant to celebrate Hogan's accomplishments, as McDonald's presents her with some surprise gifts.

Hogan, who is the chairperson of the Equality Team at South River High, teaches her students using a combination of Spanish and STEM methodology. She has a bachelors degree in Spanish education, a masters degree in intercultural communications and a masters degree in education.

Hogan, who lives in Riva, was named the Anne Arundel County 2012-2013 Teacher of the Year in April. She also teaches Spanish part-time at Anne Arundel Community College where she was named Foreign Language Association (MFLA) teacher of the year in 2011.

The Maryland State Teacher of the Year will be announced on Oct. 11.

McDonald's in Edgewater is located at 113 Mitchells Chance Rd.
