Families Displaced by Lothian Fire Seek Community's Help

A two-alarm fire in Lothian destroyed a mobile home and severely damaged another one on Friday, displacing seven people, including a young mother and her two-year-old child.

While no one was severely injured, one elderly woman went to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, according to Anne Arundel County Fire Department officials.

In the aftermath that followed, close friends and families rallied around those displaced from the flames, seeking the community’s help in supporting those left without a home and clothing.

Casey Deane, 25, and her two-year-old daughter Chloe lost their home in the flames on Friday. Deane’s close friend Corey Welling, said the young mother is also seven months pregnant.

“They lost everything inside [the home],” Welling said.

Welling said those close to Deane are collecting donations to support the young family at two locations throughout the area—Grace Brethren Church at 9870 Old Solomons Island Rd. in Owings, MD and the South County Senior Center at 27 Stepney Ln. in Edgewater, both from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

For those interested in donating, Deane needs maternity clothes in sizes 7-9, size 7 shoes, toys, books and household items. Her child, Chloe, is in need of shoes in size 8, Welling said.

Mike Fitzpatrick and Shirley Quade along with Quade’s mother lived in the other mobile home, which suffered severe damage inside the structure. The couple lost one of its cats, but their two dogs and other cat survived, according to close friend Tricia Meunier.

Meunier said friends are hoping to help Fitzpatrick and Quade by gathering clothing and gift cards to restaurants in the Prince Frederick area because that’s where they’re staying for the time being.

She said Quade needs women’s size 12 pants, large tops and size 6 shoes. Fitzpatrick is in need of men’s pants size 30 x 32 and large shirts. Quade’s mother needs extra large nightgowns or comfortable dresses, Meunier said. Towels and blankets are also needed, she said.
