Jack Creek Park in Shady Side Reopens With New Trails
The park's grand reopening was celebrated last week in a ceremony that included Anne Arundel County Councilman Jerry Walker and County Executive Laura Neuman.

Anne Arundel County is reopening a little bit of beachfront property.
The Capital Gazette reports Jack Creek Park in Shady Side is has reopened to residents. The 57-acre park was dedicated last week in an event attended by County Executive Laura Neuman, the paper reports.
The park along Jack Creek and the Chesapeake Bay has 3,000 feet of shoreline. The upgrades cost $8,5000, according to the paper, and included new fences, trails and a parking area.
The Anne Arundel County Department of Parks and Recreation partnered with the West/Rhode Riverkeeper staff to improve park access and build the trail network at Jack Creek, according to the parks and recreation website. The project was also supported by the Public Water Access Committee.
“All parts of the county deserve access to our waterways,” Rick Anthony, Anne Arundel County director of recreation and parks, told The Capital Gazette. “Right now, we are working to improve that everywhere.”
Access to the park, however, remains limited. County residents must request the code to the combination lock on the gate through the county's website, and the lock's code changes monthly.
According to the county's website, Jack Creek is ideal for hiking an nature studies, but patrons are advised to take proper precautions against biting insects and poison ivy.
