'Harvest of Artists' Art Show Kicks Off in Lothian Friday

Local artist will sell their work and support South County residents in need at the Muddy Creek Artists Guild’s annual Harvest of Artists, hosted at Greenstreet Gardens in Lothian this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 

For three days, more than 50 local artists will be displaying and selling work, and also collecting canned food donations for the South County Area Network food bank.

“It’s a really diverse collection of artists. Sculptors, painters, photographers, fine arts,” Heather Buhaj, MCAG member and event co-chair said. 

The event is being hosted once again at Greenstreet Gardens. Buhaj, who is an artisan jeweler, said the guild incorporates the “beautiful fall foliage” at the gardens into the show. 

The show has always brought in donations, and MCAG is happy to support SCAN again this year. SCAN is also grateful for the community support. 

One of SCAN’s cofounders, past president and current board secretary Cindy Morgan, said the organization is often the beneficiary of local food drives like the one MCAG is holding as part of its upcoming show. 

“We have a wonderful community down here in that canned goods and donations come all the time, trickling in,” Morgan said. 

This year, MCAG asked Morgan to come in and speak to the artists, to get them more invested and involved with the mission and work of SCAN. 

“On a monthly basis, we serve about 200 to 210 families. That’s about 600 individuals a month,” she said. 

These numbers have only been increasing with the current economy, Morgan added. 

In addition to collecting donations for SCAN, MCAG will also be selling raffle tickets to support the guild’s scholarship fund. Each spring the guild awards to scholarships to promising artists from South River and Southern high schools. 

Harvest of Artists kicks off at 10 a.m. Friday at Greenstreet Gardens, located at 391 West Bay Front Rd. in Lothian. The gallery will be open until 7 p.m. and there will be an opening reception that evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  The gallery will also be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. 

Canned good donations for SCAN are appreciated but not required. Art on display in the gallery will also be for sale.
