Local Girl Scouts Gather Donations for Sandy Responders
Did you see little Girl Scout cookie saleswomen at your polling station? They were raising money to help firefighters in the New York and New Jersey area.

The following article was submitted by Girl Scout parent Catherine Gillies.
Junior Girl Scout Troop 4162 and Brownie Girl Scout Troop 1562 teamed up this week to collect donations for the firefighters away from home helping with the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.
They held two Election Day cookie booths at South River High, and while they were selling their cookies, they asked passersby if they would like to help them help the firefighters who are away from home right now without basic supplies. With yesterday's donations, the girls will be able to send 2 cases of cookies and several shopping bags of vital personal care items to help our nation's heroes who are helping other east coast families get their lives back together after Superstorm Sandy.

The girls were responding to a request that came down through the local Girl Scout leader Service Unit, Community 47.
Girl Scout Troop 4162 member Suzanne said, "I think it's important to help out the firelighters because they ware away from home because of the hurricane. It makes me happy to help out."
