Costa Supports Same-Sex Marriage Bill
Delegate Bob Costa, a south county Republican, voted to move Gov. Martin O'Malley's civil marriage legislation out of committee on Tuesday.

Deale resident and Maryland Delegate Robert A. Costa (R-District 33B) showed support Tuesday for Gov. Martin O’Malley’s civil marriage bill, according to a Marylanders for Marriage Equality spokesman.
Costa voted Tuesday to move the bill out of committee and the legislation is expected to be introduced to the full chamber on Wednesday, according to The Washington Post.
In July 2011, O’Malley to sponsor a bill that would allow same-sex marriage.

“In the 2012 legislative session, I will sponsor legislation that protects religious freedom and protects marital equality rights equally under the law,” O’Malley said .
Kevin Nix, the communications director for Marylanders for Marriage Equality, released a statement about Costa's support of the legislation.

“Costa understands civil marriage quality is a bipartisan issue. It impacts all Maryland families and all of his constituents,” Nix said in the statement.
The south county delegate joins Sen. Allan Kittleman as another GOP politician to support O’Malley’s civil marriage bill, according to the release.
