Pasture Raised Beef, Chicken Now for Sale at Honey Hive

Local, organic dairy selections should be added in the coming weeks.

The meat has arrived! The much anticipated meat from local, pasture raised animals is now being sold at Honey Hive in Edgewater.

The products will be supplied by Southern Maryland Meats, and Honey Hive will be the first store in Anne Arundel County to carry the products. The current selection of meats includes, chicken thighs and legs, beef roasts, steak, stew meat and ground beef. All products for sale at this time come from animals raised at En-Tice-Ment Farm, located in Harwood. Prices range from $5.25 a pound up to $11 a pound, depending on the cut and type of meat.

Honey Hive owner Rachel Powers said so far, customers have been pleased. One particular customer bought $70 worth of meat in one visit, she said. Powers only gets a small amount of the profits from the meat sales, but she's hoping the offerings will draw some new cliental into her artisan bakery and wedding cake shop.

Local, organic dairy will also be available for purchase in the coming weeks.

Honey Hive is located at 155 Mitchells Chance Rd. Hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
