POLL: Councilman Endorses Gingrich, Who Gets Your Vote?

After initially supporting Rick Perry, District 7 councilman Jerry Walker now plans to work with the Gingrich campaign in Anne Arundel County.

The next chapter in the race for the Republican presidential nomination will occur Tuesday night when Florida voters choose who they want to go up against President Barack Obama.

After a meteoric rise in South Carolina, Newt Gingrich won the latest primary but currently trails Mitt Romney by 12 points in Florida, according to CNN.

On Jan. 4, south county Patch readers as to whom they would vote for if Maryland had a caucus, but since then, three major candidates have dropped out of the race—Michelle Bachmann, Jon Huntsman and Rick Perry.

Of the 160 votes, went to Romney, to Ron Paul and to Rick Santorum. Newt Gingrich finished last of the currently remaining candidates with 27 votes, roughly 16 percent. However, after his strong showing in South Carolina, Gingrich has gained momentum nationally, as well as in Anne Arundel County.

District 7 County Councilman Jerry Walker initially endorsed Rick Perry, but after his preferred nominee dropped out of the race, Walker followed Perry and publicly endorsed Newt Gingrich.

Walker told Patch Monday he’ll be working with the Gingrich team in Anne Arundel County as the Maryland primary approaches on April 3. The councilman will join Gingrich’s campaign manager for Anne Arundel County in Annapolis for a “viewing party” Tuesday night.
