Riva Road Farmers Market Kicks Off Season Saturday

The Anne Arundel County Farmers Market on Riva Road kicks off its 31st year of operation Saturday as the first of several markets opening for the summer season.

According to a release from the Anne Arundel County Economic Development Corporation (AAEDC), the market will open Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon on the corner of Harry S. Truman Parkway and Riva Road in Annapolis.

Although the winter market remains open every Sunday until the end of April, the Riva Road market is the first summer market ready for patrons starting this Saturday.

Four other markets will open throughout the county this summer in Deale, Severna Park, Piney Orchard and two at the Westfield location.

“On opening day, the Riva market expects to see well over 500 visitors and will offer early season bedding plants, potted plants, hanging baskets, herbs, spring vegetables, baked goods, jams, jellies, cut flowers, flavored vinegars, fresh eggs, soaps and many other specialty items,” according to the release.

The farmers markets throughout the county are known as “producer only” markets, meaning they only feature locally grown, seasonal produce. It’s expected that the types of items offered at the markets will change as the season progresses, according to the release.

Last year, the with live music, but with an expected 500 people in attendance, it appears the 31st grand opening could be just as big.
