Salon Raises $5,800 for Critically Injured Toddler

Recent fundraisers by an Edgewater salon for the family of an infant critically injured in a fiery car crash in Ocean City last December.

held a “cut-a-thon” Feb. 26, including hair cuts, minute massages, polish changes and more. It was the local business’s latest effort in supporting the DelRicco family and their 19-month-old daughter, Ava, while she recovers at Johns Hopkins Hospital Children’s Center in Baltimore. 

While sitting in their vehicle at a red light, Ava DelRicco and her mother Ann Marie were hit by a truck whose driver was in possession of marijuana and Phencyclidine (PCP) on Dec. 16, according to a release by the Ocean City Police Department. The truck caught fire after striking DelRicco's car on Coastal Highway.

“[Ava] was trapped in the car and police said there was fire coming from the engine compartment of the truck,” Scott Muska said in a phone interview with Patch. Muska was the Ocean City reporter for the Worcester County Times and covered the story back in December.

To help the DelRiccos both financially and in spirit, for various prizes. Ranging from $1 to $5 in price, residents looking to support Ava and her family can do so by going to the establishment and purchasing a raffle ticket or two.

will stop selling the tickets Saturday night, meaning it’s the last chance to possibly win tickets to the Wizards vs. Lakers game on March 7 and help the DelRiccos in the process.

In addition to Wizards game, the salon is giving away women’s self-defense classes at East Coast Martial Arts, a $500 gift certificate to Diamond Cutters of Maryland and a two-night stay at Georgetown Suites Hotel in Washington, DC.
