Seahawks Win Back-to-Back at Doubleheader

South River's varsity baseball team clinched its second win of the day after their batter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

baseball team won a doubleheader Wednesday, defeating Franklin High 15-8 and beating Fallston in a close 5-4 contest.

Fans were treated to a high-scoring affair as the Seahawks outscored Franklin 15-8 in seven innings during a viciously fought spring break game at Joe Cannon Stadium at Harmans Park in Hanover.

The teams combined for 25 hits, including eight extra-base hits.

The game was back-and-forth heading into the fifth inning, with seven lead changes. The biggest inning for South River was the fifth when their bats caught fire leading to eight runs to grab the lead for good on an RBI double by Joe Scott off Franklin's Dan Harmon, plating Brody Raimondo.

Charlie Hardesty started on the mound, hanging tough for four critical innings, walking one and striking out three, with Bryan Shores getting it done in relief. He allowed four runs over three innings, struck out two, walked none and surrendered four hits.

Scott, Shores and Connor Cox all doubled while Jake Gratz was hit by a pitch for the fifth time in the season. Scott and Craig Sheridan are credited with three RBIs a piece.

After their first win, the Seahawks battled for the second time of the day coming from behind to win against Fallston.

The two teams traded the lead multiple times, but South River ended up on top 5-4 in seven innings over Fallston.

South River pulled out the win thanks to a strong seventh inning where smart batters loaded the bases on walks and the winning run crossed the plate when Scott Mitchell was hit by pitch.

Brett Kowalewski got on base two times in the game for Fallston. He scored one run and had one RBI. Kowalewski also homered in the sixth inning.

Shores, Craig Sheridan, Nick Raimondo and Gabe Vertucci all collected hits for South River.

Sheridan was strong on the mound, throwing strikes on 62 of his 101 pitches. Sheridan collected five strikeouts and walked two for South River.

Next, Seahawks will face Annapolis in conference play after Easter.
