March 30—

was evacuated the morning of March 30 when , Anne Arundel County fire spokesman Chief Michael Cox said.

“During the course of [firefighter] investigations, they believe it was a malfunctioning HVAC unit,” Cox said.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools spokesman Bob Mosier said the incident had nothing to do with previous concerns about the school.

March 29—

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department is seeking the public's help in determining on March 29.

Department spokesman Lt. Cliff Kooser said fire officials learned of a fire at the 3500 block of Patuxent River Road, near Mount Airy Road. When they arrived, the fire had been put out.

March 28—

on March 27 behind the  in Edgewater, but police said there are no signs of foul play.

“Officers arrived and located an adult male, who was pronounced dead at the scene by fire personnel,” Anne Arundel County police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said.

Mulcahy said he couldn't go into the specifics of the incident, but reinforced that preliminary investigations show that nothing suspicious occurred. 

March 26—

A 55-year-old man suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries on March 26 in Galesville , according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

Fire department spokesman Lt. Cliff Kooser said he didn’t know the details of the incident, but confirmed the man was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with serious injuries.

March 23—

The Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) charged a Shady Side man with , according to a NRP release.

On March 14, NRP officers found John Edward Smith III, 57, of Shady Side, in possession of striped bass when they saw him “commercially fishing” a drift gill net for white perch in the Rhode River near Shady Side and followed him to his home, according to the release.

March 23—

A south county man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after he allegedly shot his girlfriend in the upper body during an argument in North Beach.

Officers arrested Kenneth William Mitchell II, 34, of the 600 block of Alabama Avenue, for allegedly shooting his girlfriend, 26, according to a release by the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

March 16—

A recent series of “” in south county led police to remind residents of simple safety tips that can prevent them from being victimized. 

“In most cases, sheds and garages, which were left unsecured, who targeted power tools and lawn equipment in those structures,” according to the release. “No suspect information has been developed at this time.” 

March 12—

A on March 11 by a Chevrolet Tahoe in the 5500 block of Muddy Creek Road, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

“[The Tahoe] was traveling south on Muddy Creek Road when it encountered a female pedestrian running into the roadway,” according to a police press release.

Anne Arundel County Fire Department Lt. Keith Hamilton said to the woman before she died. Paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene after they responded to the area around 8:55 p.m. on March 11, according to the press release.

March 9—

A 46-year-old man suffered serious injuries when , according to police and fire officials.

In a separate incident, mulch on the median strip at Mitchells Chance Road was smoldering, Anne Arundel Fire Department Chief Michael Cox said. 

The fire department responded and contended with the smoking mulch that was located between  and , Cox said.

March 8—

Maryland State Police are of a teen killed in the  with serving alcohol to minors, according to WJZ 13 in Baltimore.

On Jan. 28, four people died after a teenager who was found to be drunk drove  on Route 50 and then struck another driver, who was also drunk, state police said.

March 8—

throughout Anne Arundel, Prince George’s and Queen Anne’s counties pleaded guilty to charges in Anne Arundel County, according to The Capital.

In Anne Arundel County Circuit Court, Tommy Edward Clack, 40, agreed to pay back thousands of dollars to local residents he scammed by overcharging them for pavement jobs, The Capital stated.

March 7—

Local jazz bassist Gene “Joe” Byrd was identified as the man who died after firefighters pulled him from the wreckage in the Maryland , according to Anne Arundel County police.

Byrd, 78, of Edgewater was turning left from Lee Airpark Drive in his Volvo when a , police said.

“The Yukon was traveling south on Solomons Island Road when it proceeded through a red traffic signal and struck the Volvo,” according to the press release.

March 1—

with three firefighters inside it while emergency crews tended to an injured person on eastbound Route 50 in Davidsonville, authorities said.

Firefighters and paramedics were tending to on Route 50 near the Patuxent River Road overpass when a vehicle hit the back of the fire engine, Anne Arundel Fire Department Chief Michael Cox said.
