South River Baseball Shuts Out Southern, 11-0
The Seahawks earned their first win of the 2012 season by taking down the Southern "Bulldawgs."

's varsity baseball team (1-1) jumped out to an early lead Monday against Southern High (0-2) and captured an 11-0 victory at home.
The Seahawks scored 11 runs in the first three innings, putting it well out of reach from an early point.

A sacrifice fly by Scott Mitchell, an RBI double by Connor Cox in the first inning, an RBI single by Gabe Vertucci, a two-run double by Cox and an RBI single by Bryan Shores in the second inning supplied the early offense for South River.
Cox and Shores racked up three total RBIs and two hits each for South River. Joe Scott and Vertucci acquired bases and scored all three times in their plate appearances.

Southern was unable to make good contact against Charlie Hardesty who pitched without relief. Southern managed just one hit off of South River's pitcher, who allowed no runs and struck out four during his five innings of work.
