South River Baseball 'Slaughters' Bel Air 12-1

With the huge lead, South River's varsity baseball team won the game with the slaughter rule, ending after only five innings.

South River's varsity baseball team (3-2) beat Bel Air 12-1 in five innings Tuesday at home after an eight-run explosion in the second inning.

Connor Cox racked up four RBIs on two hits for South River. Cox singled in the second inning and homered in the third.

Starter Scott Mitchell gave Bel Air fits on the rubber. The visiting team only managed two hits off of Mitchell who allowed no runs, walked three and struck out seven during his four innings of work. Pierce Tyrrell allowed one run and struck out two in his inning. 

Overall, coach Ken Dunn's squad faced two pitchers and racked up 12 hits in a short game with pairs of hits from Joe Scott, Cox, Craig Sheridan and Austin Wright. Gabe Vertucci bombed a stand-up triple while Mitchell, Bryan Shores and Jake Gratz each acquired with a single.
