South River Lacrosse Collects Food, Funds for the Hungry
The team will be collecting food and monetary donations at Friday's football game against Southern High School.

The South River High School boys lacrosse team is giving back this fall, by participating in the Maryland Food Bank's Harvest for the Hungry food drive.
The team has been working hard, collecting food and monetary donations to support hungry community members. This is the eighth year South River lacrosse has participated in the drive.
"Our coach has stressed giving back the the community so we are big supporters of this," said Gunnar Schimoler, 16, who is a junior at South River and is playing on the lacrosse team for his third year in a row.
Lacrosse players will be collecting food and monetary donations at Friday's football game agains Southern High School. Players will be set up at the front gate from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. and they hope that each person who attends will bring one food item and donate $1 to the Harvest for the Hungry Drive.
South River High has consistently been one of the top fundraisers for this statewide drive, with the Lacrosse team leading the pack.

"The past two years, lacrosse has come in number one for sports teams in the club," Schimoler said.
Giving back to the community is important to Schimoler, and to his teammates.

"We stress giving what you have to others, knowing where you are in life and helping the people who are less fortunate," he said.
While Maryland is the richest state in the U.S., one in seven people still report experiencing hunger, according to the Maryland Food Bank, which also said that number increases to one in six for children.
The Harvest for the Hungry drive will continue through the month of October.
