Statewide Leadership Program Selects Local Educator for Training

Leadership Maryland selected the head of The Summit School in Edgewater to participate in workshops hoping to solve the state's social, economic and environmental issues.

A statewide leadership program selected local educator Joan A. Mele-McCarthy last week to participate in its eight-month series to address social, economic and environmental issues in Maryland.

According to a release by in Edgewater, Mele-McCarthy will join 49 other men and women in Leadership Maryland, an independent leadership program that seeks solutions for issues specific to the state. Together, the group will participate in hands-on workshops, seminars and debates.

The events will focus on economic, social and environmental issues in Maryland, according to the release.

“Together alongside current leaders, the group works to develop and foster ingenuity to inspire though, action and deed toward solutions to further the state’s success,” according to the release.

Mele-McCarthy is the head of school at The Summit School and specializes in learning disabilities as well as speech and language, according to the release. She joins more than 900 other members of Leadership Maryland, which has existed since 1992.
