Top 5 Stories: New Legislation, Toxicology Reports

Reviewing the biggest stories from the week of Feb. 5-11.

Government and political news stories dominated this week’s headlines, ranging from proposed legislation to active parents. 

No. 1—Anne Arundel County  on charges of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and marijuana, in addition to three other charges. A release by the police department said he obstructed in drug investigations by tipping off dealers.

His colleagues  who “created a substantial risk of death or serious physical injury.”

No. 2—Prior to Monday’s County Council meeting, Patch learned of District 7 Councilman Jerry Walker’s (R-Gambrills) plans to propose legislation that would .

No. 3—Patch followed up on initially reported claims that  in the crash that killed Brian McDevitt on Jan. 28. A spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Police Department said  of the crash, but said McDevitt’s toxicology report was still pending.

No. 4—Gov. Martin O’Malley proposed legislation that would shift the cost of teacher pension from state to county governments in his State of the State address, but local councilman .

Walker spoke with Patch and outlined why the governor’s teacher pension shift was what . “It’s not a partisan thing, it’s a state to county thing,” Walker said.

No. 5—A  sent a short but poignant message to O’Malley asking him to “fix her school,” after she said it made her teacher sick  shared with Patch. 

It was the latest addition to the growing amount of attention surrounding Edgewater Elementary where parents are claiming  with respiratory problems.
