Top 5 Stories: Pedestrian Fatally Struck, Boy Fights Against Cancer

A brief look at the biggest stories from March 11-17.

Here are the top five stories of the week, ranging from an inside look at the Anne Arundel County Council’s District 1 seat fiasco to a 10-year-old who is overcoming his own steback and continues to support the fight against cancer.

No. 1—VIDEO: Interview with District 1 Candidates and

No. 2—

A 55-year-old woman was by an SUV in the 5500 block of Muddy Creek Road, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department. According to police, a witness told officers and into the roadway before she was hit by a Chrevrolet Tahoe.

Around the same time that the Tahoe struck the woman, emergency crews received a call of a camper trailer fire in the same hundred-block of Muddy Creek Road.

"Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division are working in conjunction with Fire Investigators from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department to determine any possible connection between the two incidents and if foul play was involved," the press release stated.

No. 3—Eight

The Maryland State Department of Education on the Maryland School Assessment and High School Assessment in 2011.

The question of Anne Arundel County's District 1 representation , but a decision may take some time.

The Anne Arundel County Council  that declared the District 1 seat vacant saying that former Councilman Daryl Jones would be living outside of his district while serving a prison sentence in South Carolina. Jones was , and began serving his five-month sentence on Jan. 23.

While shaving his head three years in a row, Zach helped raise money for his cancer-stricken cousin, Katie, who passed away in May 2011. couldn’t stop this local hero from shaving his head a fourth time, honoring his friendship and  the memory of his beloved cousin during last week’s St. Baldrick’s fundraiser in Annapolis.
