Truck's Side Mirror Strikes Pedestrian on Central Avenue
Police say a 51-year-old woman ran onto Central Avenue East, where she was struck in the head by a truck's side mirror.

An Edgewater woman is in critical condition after she was hit by a truck on Central Avenue East on Wednesday night, according to Anne Arundel County police.
At about 6:19 p.m., police and paramedics responded to a single vehicle collision with a pedestrian on Central Avenue East near West Shore Road. Upon arrival, they found a 51-year-old Edgewater woman with serious injuries caused from the accident.
Paramedics transported the woman to University of Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore where she is listed in critical condition, according to police.

Following their initial investigation, police said it appeared the woman ran into the furthest right travel lane of Central Avenue East, where she was then struck by a Ford F-150.
According to a press release, the woman was hit in the head by the truck’s right side mirror as she ran out into the roadway. The impact was so severe, the mirror fell completely off the truck and into the roadway, police said.

The driver immediately stopped and waited for help from emergency personnel, according to police.
Officers said pedestrian error was the primary cause of the accident, and that there was no indication of alcohol or speeding affecting the driver’s inability to avoid the pedestrian. Additional factors pertaining to the woman, including possible medical issues, are being investigated by police, according to the release.
