Community Media Center Launches New, Local Talk Show Program showcases real talk about substance use disorders
Westminster, Maryland (Tuesday, November 23, 2021) The Community Media Center has partnered with the Carroll County State’s Attorney’s Office to produce a new pilot series: “Real Talk.” The program is designed to shed light on substance use disorders, remove the stigma about the disease and provide information and resources for those in crisis, seeking treatment or in recovery.
The program is hosted by Tim Weber, Community Education Liaison with the Office of the State’s Attorney in Carroll County. “Real Talk” examines the various stages of substance use through candid interviews with those affected in our community. The program features people in recovery, family members of those who suffer from substance use disorders, counselors in treatment centers and law enforcement officers working on the front lines helping to save lives.
“Recovery is possible for anyone,” said Real Talk Host, Tim Weber. “Knowing the steps to take for family and friends is vital to making that first step to recovery”
“While the stories of addiction are personal, the path to recovery is about community,” said Richard Turner, Executive Director of the Community Media Center. “Chances are you know someone who has been impacted by substance use. That also means you probably know someone who might need this information. The CMC's goal is to improve the quality of life within our community by increasing the degree and effectiveness of connection. That starts with real talk.”
The first episode of “Real Talk,” focusing on the Crisis stage, will premiere on cable channel HD 1086 on Thursday, November 25 at 11 p.m. Initial rebroadcasts will air on November 27th and 28th at 9 p.m. Check the CMC channel guide for additional dates & times. Additional episodes focusing on Treatment and Recovery have already been produced and will be scheduled for broadcast in the coming weeks with more episodes planned.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Community Media Center on an opportunity to educate the community on substance use disorder and on the resources out there for anyone suffering from the disease,” Carroll County State’s Attorney Allan J. Culver said. “I want to thank Richard Turner and the rest of the Community Media Center for their hard work and dedication to the project.”
The Community Media Center is also in the process of building a section on its website www.carrollmediacenter.org to list various organizations, service providers and other resources available in the county and surrounding area that can help individuals and their families dealing with substance use disorders.
