$1M Lotto Win Surprises Howard County Man Who Plans To Pay Off Debt, Buy New Car

An Ellicott City man who won $1M on a Monopoly X100 lotto ticket hadn't won such a large amount before. He plans to pay off debt.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — A lottery player from Ellicott City who typically wins the lowest denominator on his favorite games couldn't believe what he won on his Monopoly X100 ticket.

“I almost had a heart attack,” he said at Maryland Lottery headquarters after claiming his windfall.

His previous personal best lottery win was $1,000 from a Keno ticket.

This time, he won $1 million.

On the day he bought the ticket, the winner was in line at 108 Liquors at 12447 Clarksville Pike in Clarksville behind two other people. The first one purchased a few Monopoly X200 tickets and won $500. The next person won $10 on the Monopoly X50 game.

“No one touched the $20 ticket,” the winner said, noting that was the one he decided to go with. He scratched to reveal a winning match on 59 and revealed the prize as $1 million.

“I scanned it and all these numbers started coming up,” he said.

The winner has kept his windfall hush hush for now, but plans to help out friends who have lost their jobs, square up his finances for himself, his mom and other family members, buy a new vehicle and invest in his girlfriend's new business venture.

“It’s a blessing. You have to spread it around,” he said.

The Howard County retailer, 108 Liquors, receives a bonus of $1,000 for selling the top-tier-winning ticket.
