2 Farmer's Fridge Vending Machines Installed In Howard County

Two Farmer's Fridge vending machines can be found in the county. They offer healthy food options such as apple pecan salad and noodle bowls.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Two Farmer's Fridge vending machines have been installed at the Howard County Circuit Court in Ellicott City and the Ascend One building in Columbia as a way to offer fresh, handmade meals and snacks.

Menu items include pineapple coconut chia pudding, apple pecan salad, Thai noodle bowl and chipotle turkey sandwich, among many other healthy choices. There are more than 1,000 Farmer’s Fridge locations in the United States. Farmer’s Fridge launched 10 years ago and has grown into a multi-city operation serving thousands of customers a day, and soon to be helping improve access to healthy food in Howard County.

“The introduction of Farmer’s Fridge here is especially significant as we continue our work to create a culture of health throughout Howard County,” said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball. “We have worked hard to establish innovative healthy food partnerships and programs—including our county’s Roving Radish program, which recently just partnered with our schools to provide students and families with free, fresh produce. By increasing access to healthy food, we empower individuals to make better choices and help combat diet-related diseases. This initiative furthers our goal of improving nutrition and fostering a healthier lifestyle for everyone in our community.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, only about 1 in 4 adults in Maryland eat enough fruits and vegetables for the recommended daily intake. The Fridges inside the Circuit Court and Ascend One building will provide employees, courthouse visitors and other community members with fresh, healthy food items at the tip of their fingers. Through the Farmer’s Fridge mobile application, people can browse the menu, order and reserve their meal.
