245K Gallons Of Sewage Overflows At Pumping Station

Officials reported a blocked line that caused 245K gallons of sewage to overflow at a pumping station in Ellicott City over the weekend.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — Over the weekend, nearly 245,000 gallons of sewage overflowed at Waverly Woods Pumping Station in Ellicott City.

Officials reported that the overflow was caused by a blockage. The Howard County Department of Public Works was alerted to the problem on Saturday at noon. The overflow impacted a stormwater pond on the grounds of the Waverly Woods Golf Club, which is used for irrigation, according to WMAR. The blockage and overflow were stopped by 5 p.m. on Sunday, WBAL reported.

The Howard County Health Department stated that anyone who was on the grounds from 7 a.m. on Sunday until the close of business should clean any clothing or equipment that was exposed to the affected area.
