Ellicott City Woman Found Not Guilty of Killing Quadriplegic Husband

The jury deliberated for four hours on Thursday before returning a verdict.

A Howard County jury found Nancy Fleming Molony not guilty of killing her quadriplegic husband at Howard County Circuit Court on Thursday evening.

Prosecutors contended that Molony, 53, administered a lethal amount of oxycodone painkillers to her husband, Kevin Molony, that caused his death in February of 2011. But during the trial Molony's defense convinced the medical examiner to change Molony's manner of death from a homicide to "could not be determined", according to Wayne Kirwan, a spokesperson for the Howard County state's attorney's office.

Kevin Molony had been a quadriplegic requiring around-the-clock care since a 2007 auto accident.

A juror who spoke with Patch after the trial said the case was riddled with reasonable doubt.

"The defense was masterful in exposing holes in the prosecution's case over and over again," said the juror, who requested to remain anonymous due to the sensitive nature of the case.

The juror said one of the key points that convinced the jury was a video that showed Kevin Molony lifting his hand to his mouth and scratching his head, which the juror said presented the possibility that Molony could have taken the drugs himself.

The jury deliberated for about four hours before finding Nancy Molony not guilty, according to Kirwan.

During closing arguments Molony's defense attorney told the jury that the state failed to directly link her to her husband's death and that others or Kevin Molony himself may have caused his death, according to Kirwan.
