Gold Medalist Presents HoCo Teen With Special Wheelchair
Howard County teen could not believe it when a wheelchair gold medalist presented him with a special wheelchair for playing basketball.
JESSUP, MD — A Howard County teen couldn't believe his luck when wheelchair basketball gold medalist Megan Blunk rolled into the gymnasium. Marquis Tisdol, 13, was born with spina bifida and loves playing wheelchair basketball. Unfortunately, a traditional wheelchair like the one he has doesn't turn well.
"So when I first got injured, I only had an everyday wheelchair and I spent a year not knowing there were any sports I could play, so everything in my life was just forwards and backwards because (the) wheels were just straight up and down, and so it doesn't just, like, turn easily. (I'm sitting in a) basketball wheelchair, and you just spin. It's, like, a freedom to move in all different angles," Blunk told WBAL.
The athlete presented the teen with a customized Per4Max sports chair. Afterward, Blunk taught a basketball clinic.
