Here’s Why Kaylynn Was Shouted Out As An Ellicott City Star Student

We all know students who excel in academic, fine arts or volunteer service. Here's a local resident who is having an impact in Howard Co.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors. This submission was written by Jennifer Walker who nominated Kaylynn of Ellicott City.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized? Kaylynn is a senior at Wilde Lake High School. She has a passion for animals. During the pandemic she helped foster dogs and puppies. She volunteers at a local farm where she is responsible for the care sheep and goats. She has volunteered a Veterinarian clinics, caring for sick animals. Kaylynn recently completed an internship at the USDA where she conducted molecular research in veterinary parasitology. Kaylynn's hard work combined with her high academic achievements have resulted in her acceptance into veterinary school directly out of high school through the early entry program at Mississippi State University.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student? Kaylynn is been a member of Howard County 4-H for eight years where she had held numerous officer positions. Most recently she served as her club's vice president. Through 4-H she trains and competes with her dogs, Daisy and Dayla, in obedience and agility, winning numerous awards.
