Howard County Football Teams Advance To Playoffs
Several area teams will play Friday night in the first round of playoffs as they work their way toward the state championship.
HOWARD COUNTY, MD —The regular season may have wrapped up for high school football, but several area teams have entered the playoffs. The top-seeded team from the county is No. 1 River Hill in Class 3A East with an 8-1 record. River Hill hosts No. 8 Wilde Lake. Glenelg is the No. 2 seed in 2A West with a 6-3 record. Glenelg hosts No. 7 Century.
Sixth seed Oakland Mills will ply at third ranked Liberty. Seventh ranked Long Reach plays at second ranked Westminster. Marriotts Ridge, ranked third, plays Atholton, and fifth ranked Hammond plays at fourth ranked Manchester Valley. Games will be played at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 at the higher seeded team's home field.
The teams that prevail Friday night will advance to another week of playoff games and the remaining eight teams will be re-seeded based on the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association point system from regular-season play. State quarterfinals will take place Nov. 22-23, with the semifinals scheduled for the following weekend, according to the association. The state finals are scheduled for Dec. 5-7 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Class 3A will play on Dec. 5 at 7 p.m., Class 4A will play Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m., while Class 1A and 2A will play Dec. 7 at 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. respectively.

Each state final game will be broadcast live on television by Sinclair Broadcasting. The NFHS Network will be livestreaming the games to watch on TV, phone, tablet or computer via the Sinclair Broadcasting live feed.
