The Howard County Police Department will be opening a new satellite office in Elkridge to help bolster their presence in the community.

“We are glad to have this additional resource in the Elkridge community,” said Howard County Police Chief Gregory Der. “Our goal is to continue to grow positive relationships with residents and businesses to ensure we are providing the best possible service. They will see officers on foot, bike and mobile patrols throughout the area.”
Howard County Executive Calvin Ball said Elkridge residents and business owners have asked for a more visible, consistent police presence in the area, especially around U.S. 1, Howard County Library System’s Elkridge Branch, Walgreens and Green Valley Shopping Center.
“This new satellite office expands our community policing progress even further and supports our patrol officers to building relationships with community members, being more proactive and maintaining a visible presence to ensure Howard County is the safest place to live, work and play," Ball said.

Laura Wisely, president of the Elkridge Community Alliance, echoed Ball's comments.
“Elkridge Community Alliance welcomes a Howard County Police satellite office. We appreciate the partnership with Green Valley Marketplace to help establish police presence in our community so that we can have a stronger sense of security for our residents and businesses,” Wisely said.
It was announced a couple months ago that additional police officers would be stationed in downtown Columbia as part of a new crime reduction plan county leaders launched earlier this year. The initiative came on the heels of a deadly shooting in February 2025 outside The Mall in Columbia.
The permanent, full-time unit of police officers are assigned to oversee the Merriweather District, The Mall in Columbia and Columbia Lakefront. They have a full-time satellite office inside the mall and have added an additional beat for patrol officers that are assigned solely to the mall, 24 hours a day.
