Report: Train Hits Car, Injures One in Ellicott City Saturday

The driver of the car is being treated at an area hospital for serious injuries, reports NBC Washington.

One person was seriously injured when a freight train hit a car in Ellicott City early Saturday morning, according to a report by NBC Washington. 

The train, which was reportedly carrying coal, struck the car on Old Frederick Road in Ellicott City at around 4:25 a.m. Saturday. 

NBC Washington reports that the driver of the car is being treated at an area hospital for serious but non life threatening injuries. The train conductor was not injured in the collision. 

No further information is available about the cause of the accident at this time. 

Just over a year ago, a coal train derailed in Ellicott City, killing local 19-year-olds Elizabeth Nass and Rose Mayr. The cause of that incident is still under investigation
