TRAFFIC ALERT: Workers To Install Sewer Bypass Pipe In Ellicott City

Drivers using Maryland Avenue in Ellicott City on Monday can expect delays, including a temporary halt in traffic, county officials said.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — This coming Monday, Howard County’s Department of Public Works’ Bureau of Utilities will install a sewer bypass pipe across Maryland Avenue in historic Ellicott City, county officials said.

This will allow crews to repair a broken sewer main in the area.

Installation of the sewer bypass pipe on Monday will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting, according to county officials.

During this time, county officials said drivers utilizing Maryland Avenue can expect delays, including a temporary halt in traffic, as crews dig up both sides of the roadway to lay the pipe and install steel plates over top.

While the installation of the sewer bypass pipe is expected to take one day to complete, parking spaces along Maryland Avenue – spaces next to the former Phoenix Emporium and Howard County Recreation and Parks' Baltimore & Ohio Ellicott City Station Museum, will remain blocked off until the sewer main itself is repaired, which, weather permitting, is expected to take two weeks to complete.
