Gas Prices Continue Record Surge

The national average for the price of regular unleaded fuel jumped 14 percent in February, according to AAA.

 

The march toward $4 a gallon for regular unleaded gasoline continues.

The national average of regular unleaded fuel increased to $3.76  a gallon on Sunday, up 8 cents from a week ago and 27 cents over the same time last year, according to the latest AAA survey.

AAA also reports that the average price per gallon rose 14 percent in February. Locally, the survey also shows that the average price of regular unleaded was $3.71 a gallon Sunday, up 4 cents in a week and 25 cents over the same time last year.

According to a AAA news release, tensions in Iran and Syria, an improving U.S. economy, movement toward solving the European debt crisis and concern over potential fuel supply shortages all have played a factor in the surging gas prices.
