Kenwood Student Semifinalist in Black History Oratory Contest
Gabrielle Williams will present her speech on Feb. 19 at the Reginald Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture
freshman Gabrielle Williams has been selected as a semifinalist in the 2012 Black History Oratory Contest sponsored by WJZ-TV and several local businesses.
The annual contest is open students in grades 9-12 who submit an essay of 600 words or less that addresses one of three famous quotes. Williams, who is in the International Baccalaureate program at Kenwood, focused her essay on a quote from Malcolm X.
As a result of being selected, she must memorize her speech and present it to a group of judges and an audience on Feb. 19 at the Reginald Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture.

The top three orators chosen by the judges will receive a cash award from WJZ and a scholarship from Toyota Financial Services.
