Troop 899 Has a Blast at Summer Camp

Members of Troop 899 in Fallston recently beat the local summer heat and thunderstorms by attending a week of camp at Resica Scout Reservation in the Pocono Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania.

Fifteen scouts, aged between 11 and 17, earned a total of 56 merit badges, including badges in Swimming, Camping, First Aid, Emergency Preparedness, Wilderness Survival, Search and Rescue, Photography, Wood Carving, Woodwork, Environmental Science, Forestry, Bird Study, Fly Fishing, Sculpture, Robotics, Moviemaking, Welding, Metalwork, Rifle Shooting, Shotgun Shooting, Athletics, Sports, Personal Fitness, Geocaching, Electricity, Radio, Chess, Photography, Pulp and Paper, Chemistry, and Basketry. Attending adult leaders had the opportunity to earn Coffee Drinking and Napping merit badges.

Additional activities enjoyed by the scouts included sailing and canoeing, swimming in the pool or in one of the many swimming holes along the Bushkill River, fishing, hiking, campfires, and gaga ball.

Scouting America (formerly BSA) Troop 899, chartered by the Fallston Lions Club, meets weekly during the school year at 7pm on Thursday nights at Fallston United Methodist Church on Mountain Road. Plans for the coming year include camping, fishing, bicycling, trips to Hershey Park and historic Jamestown, skiing, backpacking, canoeing, whitewater rafting, caving, and another week at summer camp!
