GAITHERSBURG, MD — Copper Canyon Grill in Gaithersburg recently opened a new dining and bar area with the addition of a barge on nine-acre Rio lake. The restaurant, located at 100 Boardwalk Place, wanted to expand its space and take advantage of the lakefront location.

While the indoor dining room with its chef-driven menu will continue, a news release said the venue will expand its outdoor dining experience with a more casual menu, signature cocktail offerings and relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant also renovated its exterior, including patio areas leading to the barge.

The Copper Canyon Grill Barge will operate seasonally and will close annually once the weather gets too cold for use.

“We are so excited to be able to bring this unique addition to Copper Canyon Grill in Gaithersburg,” said David Jones, managing member of Blueridge Restaurant Group, the owners of Copper Canyon Grill, in a news release. “The barge expands on the Copper Canyon Grill experience and the restaurant’s popularity. After more than 20 successful years at this location, we wanted to add something new and special for our customers.”

“It has been years in the design and engineering process and we worked closely with the City of Gaithersburg and contractors in the planning," said Erick Cooper, director of operations for Copper Canyon Grill. "One of our contractors used to build the barge is a marine contractor and a long-time friend of David Jones.”

The patio renovation includes an outside service bar with a fresh look and Copper Canyon Grill will add an outdoor lounge area soon.
